Social Support Program for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities
This service provides culturally sensitive social inclusion and community connection-based supports for elderly persons from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. SCS has Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Iranian and Afghan groups.
Activities include day trips, cultural celebrations, luncheons, gentle exercise/wellness programs, gardening workshops, craft workshops, information sessions and English and computer/smartphone classes.
Service operating times:
Each group has a Calendar of Activities that is published bi-monthly in the group’s language.
Hispanic Group
Day Trip: First Thursday
Meeting: Third Thursday, 10am – 2pm

Iranian Ladies Group
Day Trip: First Friday
Meeting: Third Friday, 11am – 3pm (Farsi interpreter required for information session 12pm-1pm)

Afghan & Iranian Group
Day Trip: Second Thursday
Italian Group
Day Trip: Last Thursday
Meeting: Every Friday, 10am – 2pm

Chinese Group/Blandville Court Group
Day Trip: Third Wednesday of every month
English Class: Every Friday 9:30 – 11:30am
Information Session: Last Monday, 11am – 12pm, (Mandarin interpreter required)
Gardening Workshop: Second Thursday of every month, 10am – 12pm

Getting There:
Consumers are expected to make their own way to meeting venues unless it is specifically indicated in the Calendar of Activities that transport is provided by Sydney Community Services.

(SCS CALD groups are based in Gladesville, Hunters Hill and Ryde areas, but group members are geographically dispersed. SCS CALD Program accepts consumers outside SCS catchment, as long as they can make their own way to the meeting venue or pickup point)
